The weather in Singapore

Sunny day in Singapore | Kyi Cho | Flickr

Officially, the rainy seasons in Singapore are December to March of the following year, and June to September.

My personal experience, as someone who has lived here since 2013, is that the weather is quite similar throughout the year. Hot and humid with a chance of significant rain every day.

Due to Singapore's proximity to the equator, it is very hot and humid here, so over the years, Singapore has made sure to plant many trees for shade. Additionally, there are many sheltered areas and attractions. There is plenty to do in Singapore's indoor areas, so there's not too much to worry about.

It is recommended to explore outdoors in the morning or late afternoon.

Walking with an umbrella can also be pleasant, provided it's not a serious downpour.

An umbrella can be bought cheaply at any of the 7/11 branches scattered across the island.

What to do when it's very hot or rainy?

Generally, you can always find shelter from the rain, go into a mall or a good restaurant.

Here are a few more recommendations:

  • Visit the magical domes of Gardens By The Bay.

  • Embark on a journey through the glittering malls of Orchard Road. Arrive at Orchard station by subway or ION mall by taxi, and from there you can connect via air-conditioned and comfortable underground passages (each passage usually also has shops) to about seven more malls.

  • Visit the large aquarium in Sentosa

  • Arrive at City Hall or Esplanade train station and embark on a hopping journey between about six excellent malls connected by underground passages. Marina Square mall has a huge and amazing soft play area for children.

  • Visit River Wonders Zoo, which is mostly adapted for touring in the rain and protected from the sun. You can also see Singapore's cute pandas there.

As you can see, there are quite a few things to do, and this is just a partial list.
